Today is my baby’s birthday.  He’s my youngest.  

It seems like only yesterday he was this cute little tyke. 

But now he’s not so little.  He’s only about 5 inches or so taller than me. 

My baby is 16.  OMG, I feel so old.  :0)

Happy birthday, son.  And like it or not, you’ll always be my baby.

Well, I think I’ve recovered from the blindside, shock, and disappointed of the sudden loss of that contract for A REAL HUSBAND.  I’m still worried about the publisher’s CEO and I’ll keep her on my prayer list, but I’ve realized that prayer is all I can do about that.

On the other hand, finding another publisher for A REAL HUSBAND is going to take more than just prayer.  So I’ve submitted it to another house.  Cross your fingers for me.

So the waiting game begins anew.  In the mean time, I’m polishing up THE WAGONMASTER before we start edits.  And I’ve started a new story called DESIGNS ON HALEY.  It’s looking like it should be novella length.  It currently stands at about 54 pages.  According to my outline, I’m about half finished.  So it should be around 100 pages when finished.  We’ll have to see, though.  LOL  If you saw the post a few months ago about th western “short story” I’d started, you know that my work has a tendency to grow bigger than originally planned.    THE WAGONMASTER was supposed to be about 15,000 words - or about 55 pages.  It turned to to be about 60,000 words.  I’m hoping that won’t happen with this one, though.  I’ve got too much other stuff I need to do!

Ever feel like you’re on the reality show Survivor and you just got voted off in one of their famous blind-sides?  Ugh.  I feel kinda like that this morning.  I never announced here on my blog.  I was waiting until the contract was signed and it was all “official.” 

I’d received a contract offer from a small publishing company.  The offer included mass market publishing and a $1000 advance.  I was so excited.  The contract was taking a while, but I’d received two emails from two different people at the company that said something like, “Sorry for the delay.” 

No problem.  Right?  Nope. 

Last night I heard from an outside source that the publisher had closed it’s doors and was filing bankruptcy.  That’s right — an OUTSIDE source. 

Now don’t get me wrong.  I’m not upset about the reasons for the closing.  The CEO has had major — and very scary — health issues.  Her health and well-being come first above all else.  I sincerely wish her the best.  She’s been on my prayer list for some time and will remain there. 

I’m disappointed, of course.  But I don’t blame anyone.  I’m not angry or disgruntled about the closing.  Things like this happen.

The only thing that bothers me is that I feel like I’m the last one to know.  From what I understand, all the other authors knew about the situation.  One said that they “have been kept abreast of the situation from the get-go.”   

But no one told me.  None of my friends who are published with the company said a word.  Now I think I know how Ozzy felt when he got voted off.  You think you have alliances and BAM.  All those people who you thought had your back are looking the other way.
