Since mine are werewolves and I try to keep them as closely in touch with real wolf behavior, the idea that they wouldn’t change until puberty doesn’t fit into my world. In Destiny of the Wolf, I do have some teen werewolves. In another story I started, I have even a younger set. So then the thought occurred to me, does the heroine have wolf pups or babies?

Really, when you’re creating a unique world, you have to cover all bases. Dogs can become deathly ill if they eat chocolate. So could a werewolf eat chocolate? Absolutely! As a human, they are human, human genetics, no discovery if they’re hospitalized. During the shift, the genetics mutate, and they’re all wolf, but still have the human sensibilities. So would I have a wolf eating chocolate? No. I’ve never heard of one eating chocolate, but I would imagine they could be affected the same way as a dog. Now does that mean a dog won’t get into chocolate on their own?

We had a standard poodle who was a chocolate thief. And no matter how much I tried to keep stuff like that out of her reach, she still got into a Star Wars cake my son made for Cub Scouts, chocolate bunnies I had gotten for my daughter’s Girl Scout troop, and a chocolate bar from Hershey Park, PA for my dad’s birthday. Not on the same day. Sooo, yes, even with safeguards, they can. But as a werewolf, would one eat chocolate in their wolf form? Possibly. If I wanted to create a world where as a werewolf, they would be unaffected by what a regular dog/wolf might be. Or, I could stick with the notion that they would know better because they have the human thinking process as a wolf and wouldn’t touch the stuff. Not that humans don’t do things that are bad for them when they shouldn’t!

So it’s a toss up, but the main thing is we have to be consistent within our worlds.

What makes the heroes so sexy? Their protectiveness, unswerving loyalty, faithfulness. They’re alpha males with a vulnerability that endears them to any heroine. And hot. Truly “Giving new meaning to the term alpha male!”
